OnePlus Nord 2 or OnePlus Nord successor is in the works and is reported to launch in the 2nd quarter of 2021. Unlike the original OnePlus Nord that has a Qualcomm’s Snapdragon SoC, OnePlus Nord 2 may come with a MediaTek SoC. This new OnePlus Nord 2 handset is rumoured to be powered by MediaTek Dimensity 1200 SoC.
The presence of Dimensity 1200 SoC on OnePlus Nord 2 is believed to be a considerable hardware upgrade over the original OnePlus Nord that had Snapdragon 765G SoC. If this handset launches officially, it will be the fourth model in the Nord series that comprise OnePlus Nord as well as OnePlus Nord N10 5G and Nord N100.
MediaTek launched Dimensity 1200 SoC as its new 5G chipset in January, 2021. It is an octa-core chipset with ultra core of ARM Cortex-A78 at a maximum clock speed of 3GHz. This processor also includes nine cores of ARM Mali-G77 MC9 GPU and supports a maximum of 16GB of LPDDR4x RAM. Further, it supports UFS 3.1 fast storage.
Alongside OnePlus Nord 2, OnePlus is in the news for working on the Nord SE smartphone. It may have an AMOLED display and support 65W fast charging. The OnePlus Nord SE is rumoured to launch sometime in the 1st quarter of 2021 – making some space for the OnePlus Nord 2.
OnePlus brought the original Nord in July 2020. That model debuted specifically in India and Europe and competed against the Samsung Galaxy M31s, Google Pixel 4a, and other smartphones in its price range.
In October 2020, OnePlus expanded the Nord line-up with the launch of OnePlus Nord N10 5G and Nord N100 that came to the US market.
