Top 5 Best Video Editing Apps for Android (2021)

Here is the list of the best video editing apps for Android right now in 2021. We’re gonna take a look at the leading options and in the end I will reveal my top pick for best video editing app for Android. I am gonna tell you the best video editor app for Android with the pricing of each.

Now there are so many options when it comes to video editing apps for Android smartphones. You’ve got things like Adobe Premiere Rush, Kine master, Viva video, Inshot, PowerDirector, video show, Filmigo Youcut and action director.

So yeah, there’s a lot of options out there but don’t worry we’ve narrowed this down to a shortlist of 5 best video editing apps which we’re going to be covering off.

1. Adobe Premiere Rush

So the first one then is Adobe Premiere Rush. Now this is really the baby brother of the professional video editing software on Mac and PC Adobe Premiere Pro and while it is a cut-down version it really packs a punch in the amount of features and control that you get in this app.

It’s also the only app that will work cross-platform and cross-device meaning that you can start an edit in Premiere rush on your iPhone and Android device or your Mac and PC. It’s just synchronized across all of them so this makes your workflow so easy for you to start something on your phone, iPad or tablet and then finish it off on your desktop computer.

Personally I love how fast it is to edit in and how intuitive it is to quickly find everything that you need without needing to get bogged down in menus and find everything.

I also love how fast and easy it is to reformat your videos. I mean, if you start with a sixteen by nine or a widescreen video and you want to quickly change it to something to fit an Instagram story in portrait, by clicking on a single button you can change and you can reformat your video to that. It’s actually going to do a great job at lining up all your titles and those sorts of things.

It’s also got amazing control over things like the audio. There’s some really powerful audio features in there that make it really easy to get your volume levels right. There’s an auto mode that does all of it for you if you want but, you can also dial in and control everything manually which is awesome.

As for the downsides, this is something that’s not going to work on every Android device. There is a list of recommended devices or supported devices to work with this app. So you’re obviously need to have one of those.

The other thing that’s worth knowing is still no ability to reverse a clip or play it backwards which does seem a little strange. It is something that public people use when they’re editing their videos and it’s also pretty rare to not have that feature in a video editing application or software.

Now in regards to pricing there is a free version of this app but you only get to export three videos. So you’re really going to be looking at paid version which starts at $9.99 per month.

The other option you’ve got is to bundle it with either Adobe Premiere Pro or the rest of the Adobe suite. If you’ve already got premiere or you’re paying for their Adobe master suite. Then you’ve already got access to Adobe Rush without any additional expense.

Now don’t worry if you’re freaking out about the price and the monthly subscription there’s some other apps coming up that may be better suited for you.

But overall Adobe Premiere rush to anyone whether you’re an absolute beginner right or intermediate or advanced level editor. But even for $9.99 per month what you’re getting access to is really good.

2. Inshot

Now out of all the apps we are covering off in this video Inshot is hands-down the easiest video editing app to use. But that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t pack a punch.

It doesn’t have all the advanced features and control like Adobe Premiere rush or like some of the other apps that we are about to mention. It is super powerful for allowing you to create your videos fast and easily and still having them look really good.

Now just like in Adobe Premiere rush if you do want to reformat your videos from widescreen to portrait for Instagram stories or square Inshot makes that surprisingly easy.

One of the standout features is having the ability in such a simple app to be able to apply an effect to multiple clips in your timeline. It’s such a simple thing and a lot of the more professional apps have this built in and yet it’s awesome to have it.

But on the other hand, what they do include in Inshot is all the tools and everything that an absolute beginner or someone who just wants to edit fast is going to need to be able to do just that. There’s also a surprisingly huge amount of customization and control over the effects and things that you can apply to your edit.

The thing that you won’t get in Inshot is the ability to have multiple video layers or video tracks or to be out of stack your video clips on top of one another. There’s also no control over frame rates. So, if you want to edit in a specific frame rate you’re not going to have that here.

There’s also no advanced professional level features things like keyframing or advanced audio control.

Now in regards to pricing there is a free version. It have a watermark but you can click to remove it and all you need to do is to watch an ad and your video can be exported without a watermark. So it’s free.

You also have the ability to pay $1.99 to remove ads completely from the app. You also have the option to unlock the pro version of Inshot and this unlocks all the paid filters effects and stickers.

Pricing wise the pro version starts at $4.39 per month or $42.99 as a one-time purchase. But again you can use this app totally for free and without a watermark.

3. KineMaster

KineMaster is probably the most professional video editing app on android right now. You’ve got a huge amount of control, tools, features and things that you would normally only find in desktop video editing programs.

There is also an useful feature like video layouts or presets for your video layouts. So if you want to have more than one video on the screen say 50% of the screen one video 50% another or image you can use one of the presets to quickly set that up. They also have an asset store. If you want to purchase music effects filters you can do all of that from within this app.

Now as for the downsides there are two main things that are missing in this video editing app.

First one is the ability to easily switch between the different formats against for widescreen to portrait to square. You actually can’t do that in Kine Master. You have to select what type of video you’re creating up front before you start editing. You can’t actually change it afterwards.

The other thing is the color correction or the color grading tools. Yes you can tweak some colors and make some minor adjustments but they’re pretty basic.

Now in regards to pricing, there is a free version of Kine master. You can download it and can use it on your device for free. But it does have a made with Kine master watermark that will be saved out on your video, unless you sign up for one of their subscriptions.

So your options are $4.99/month or $39.99/year and again I actually think that’s really really cheap considering what this app will let you do and how fast is going to let you to edit your videos on your Android device.

So I think Kine master will be perfect for someone whether you are an absolute beginner right through to intermediate or advanced. This video editing software is easy enough to use. It’s not going to be too hard for you to understand the interface of this software. So yes, it’s gonna be perfect for someone who is looking for that advance control and advanced functionality.

4. PowerDirector

The 4th one on this shortlist, is PowerDirector. This app has been the overall complete package. It is an another really powerful video editing app on Android with an interface that is surprisingly really simple and really easy and intuitive to use.

I know I’m saying this a lot but this is part of why these apps were shortlisted. Once again, even if you’re an absolute beginner, it’s gonna be really easy to jump into PowerDirector. PowerDirector has really great file compatibility to it and it supports 4K videos. If you’re gonna be shooting on other cameras, then it’s highly likely that those video files are gonna work straight out of the box editing on PowerDirector without the need to convert them.

Like KineMaster, it also supports multiple tracks of video and audio, and you’ve also got the option of in-app purchases to purchase things like extra transitions, and titles and effects and all those sorts of things, but I do wanna say that the effects and the transitions inside of PowerDirector and even the titles inside of there, the presets are actually really, really amazing. There’s a lot options in there.

PowerDirector also has descent color-correction tools, which was something that was lacking in KineMaster. And it also links with the PC version of PowerDirector. So, if you’re a PC user and you’ve got PowerDirector on your PC, you can start your edit on your Android device using this app and then you can transfer to your PC and finish editing over there.

And just the same as with KineMaster, PowerDirector does support different video sizes and different formats. But once you’ve actually started editing your project, you can’t switch between them.

Now, while this definitely isn’t a deal breaker, it is a little annoying, especially when you see how easy it is to do that in an app like InShot, but you can convert and switch between the different formats as you go, it’s a little annoying that PowerDirector and KineMaster don’t have that.

So, in regards to the cost, there is a free version, but again, it’s got a watermark on it and you’re actually limited to your exports to 720P, so you can’t export 1080 or 4K with the free version. To remove the watermark and unlock all the features, you can either pay around $7.50 per month, or you got the option for three months access for around $5 per month, or you can pay for 12 months.

The number 5th app in our list of best video editing software is VLLO. This app got a super simple interface. It’s really easy to use and to get up to speed editing. It’s also got some really cool advanced features in there that are gonna make your editing much much easier.

Simple things like having an audio waveform or the visual representation of the audio in your videos that’s overlaid. On top of the clips in your timeline there’s not many video editing apps out there that give you this functionality.

They also have a really powerful video editing feature in it. That’s normally only in the top video editing software on desktop.

You can apply all your effects and things to a layer and then anything that is under that layer on your timeline. Above that layer has those effects applied to it. This makes it so easy to apply effects or apply color grades in a bulk.

It also has a great amount of control over things like your color grade. You can really get in, dial in, tweak and adjust to make the colors in your video look the way that you want.

Now the app itself is free and it doesn’t have a border mark. You can use the basic functions in the app and export your videos without any branding or anything on there. There are ads in the free version but if you do purchase the app for $10.99, you’re gonna unlock all the features in this app.

I think it’s again gonna be perfect for someone whether you are an absolute beginner or an advanced user, because of how easy it is to find everything. It is very easy to edit.

Conclusion: Which one is the best video editing app?

So those are our top 5 shortlisted apps. Now if I had to pick a winner it’s gonna be hard but I think my number one pick would be Adobe Premiere rush. I can start something on my phone and even transfer the project from premiere rush into Adobe Premiere Pro.

The Kine master is cost runner up because it definitely hands-down has the most amount of advanced tools and functionality in any app on Android. But I’m also blown away with VLLO and if they did have that multitrack feature on Android, it can change the game a little bit.
